BJP MP Nishikant Dubey on Monday (February 10, 2025), raised concerns over the role of organisations funded by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) in India. Speaking during Zero Hour in the Lok Sabha, he urged the government to investigate these organisations, alleging that they were involved in creating unrest in the country and had connections with the Congress party.

Allegations Against USAID-Funded Organisations
Dubey claimed that USAID-backed entities played a role in mobilising protests against the government’s Agniveer initiative, supported caste-based census efforts, and extended backing to naxalism. These allegations sparked a strong reaction from Congress members, who protested against the remarks in the House.
According to Dubey, USAID has a history of interfering in the internal affairs of various countries. He further stated that U.S. President Donald Trump had shut down USAID due to its alleged involvement in destabilising governments worldwide.

Congress Protests in Lok Sabha
Dubey’s statements led to a heated exchange in the Lok Sabha as several Congress members objected to the accusations and sought to raise a point of order. However, presiding officer Sandhya Ray ruled that such provisions did not apply to Zero Hour proceedings, thereby disallowing their objections.
Following the session, Congress members met Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla to lodge their protest, arguing that Dubey’s claims were unsubstantiated and should not have been allowed during parliamentary proceedings.

Political Implications of Dubey’s Claims
Dubey’s allegations against USAID-funded organisations could have significant political ramifications, particularly in the ongoing discourse about foreign influence in India’s domestic affairs. The issue is expected to stir further debates between the ruling BJP and the opposition Congress in the coming days.
With the Budget Session of Parliament underway, this controversy adds to the series of politically charged discussions dominating the House.
