In a heart-wrenching incident near Pachora Railway Station in Jalgaon district, at least 11 passengers were killed, and several others injured when they were run over by another train after disembarking from the moving Pushpak Express due to a misunderstanding about a fire on board.

The tragedy unfolded around 5:30 p.m. when the Pushpak Express, en route from Jalgaon to Mumbai, suddenly braked causing sparks from the friction. Misinterpreting these sparks as a sign of fire, some passengers panicked and jumped off the train. Unfortunately, they landed on the tracks and were struck by the oncoming Karnataka Express traveling in the opposite direction.

Maheswar Reddy, the Superintendent of Police for Jalgaon, provided details of the incident, noting, “An incident occurred near Pachora town in Maharashtra’s Jalgaon district, where eleven persons lost their lives and four to five were injured after jumping off a moving train.” He later confirmed that all rescue operations had been completed and the bodies of the deceased were transported to Jalgaon Government Hospital. Railway officials and local authorities, including the District Collector and Sub-Divisional Officer Bhushan Ahire, were quick to respond at the scene.

Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis expressed his grief over the incident, stating, “The tragic incident of the loss of lives in a very unfortunate incident near Pachora in Jalgaon district is deeply distressing. I pay my heartfelt tributes to them.” He detailed the immediate response efforts on social media, emphasizing the coordination between district and railway administrations for medical assistance. Eight ambulances were dispatched to the site, and both government and private hospitals were prepared for treating the injured.

The incident has sparked a review of safety protocols and emergency responses for passengers on trains, highlighting the need for clear communication during crises to prevent such devastating outcomes.
